Making Waves

“Life is like the ocean. You can either be the ball floating on the waves, or make your own waves.”
― Oliver Gaspirtz

Amelia Johannsen’s ceramic art is made to inspire a return to nature’s grace. Her decorative plates fuse contemporary design with wild scenes from roaring beaches and pristine forests. Reminding us that creating beauty is more than a gift, it’s our inner nature.

From the artist

Unique, decorative wall plates are my favorite pieces to make because they're all about intuition and improvisation. Each piece has its own creative process. I start by marking patterns or drawing lines with my fingers. My hands are my favorite tool and I also use wooden tools and different objects to create textures.

Nature plays an important role in my artwork. I was very lucky to grow up in Oregon—a stunning natural environment. In my series of decorative plates, you will see patterns inspired by water, waves, sticks, stones, and wandering trails.

Created with love at my studio in Barcelona, Spain. If you have any questions, please send me a message. I’m very happy to help you!
